Welcome to our shop.

Welcome to Aiko's Asian Fabric, named for our late mother, Aiko Kabayama Ehman. A very bright and beautiful woman who loved to sew.

Well, our shop has been "officially" opened now for about 3-4 weeks.  I say "Our" shop, but for the most part I'm a one woman show.  That's not counting the husband coming in and out, one of our four kids, 2 cats and Beagle, Max.  That's also not counting the many friends that have helped and supported me throughout the buying and setup process.  Running a business from your home can be a daunting task and making room for hundreds of bolts of fabric and all of the other fun stuff that I get to buy and handle was quite an undertaking.

So far, I've done a small quilt show in Windsor, CA and did quite well there.  I've had a few random shoppers from the web and a few women that I know from my local guild, Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County (www.mqsc.org).  Of course, my biggest supporter and cheerleader has to be my sister Patti.  She lives up in Washington (don't worry, we'll fix that) and travels down to see me, help with my laundry (yes, I love her) and the babies, and fondle all of the fabric in the shop, particularly the stuff from Japan.  Yarn dyes are her favorite (mine, too).  She's also single handedly passed out around 200 business cards and is waiting for my next shipment to her.  She's great!

I recently Googled the shop and found us on the third page!  I was very happy with that.  :-)  I'm hoping that after the Fab Shop Hop in October and the Holiday Hop that we will move up a little.  I'm also hoping to get our blog out and about and connected to other quilters.

Please come back often and watch my collection of Oriental themed fabrics grow. There is so much that can be done with Asian inspired and Japanese fabrics that I am hoping to start a frenzy.  Asian fabrics really are my favorite and I hope they become yours, too.

Happy Quilting,
Cynthia

I came across your site when I was searching for Japanese fabrics. I took Japanese for five and a half years, three in high school, two and a half in college. My name (Amanda) in Japanese means about the same as Aiko, so this was the name I used in my Japanese classes. As you can see from the link to my website blog, it's also the name I used for my Livejournal.

If I could start my own quilt shop, I would specialise in Japanese and Japanese inspired fabric myself! :)

Anyway, I've saved your site and look forward to watching you grow!

I just found your site during the holiday fabshophop. Years ago in the sixties, I met Yoshiko while attending the University of Hawaii...she invited me to her home in Tokyo and I was able to go with my father when he went on business at the Air Force Base. It was a remarkable experience and I still have a piece of material I have saved through the years....I am going to keep watching your site....congratulation for having the fortitude of starting your business...I'll share with my friends your site..
